What is a writing portfolio?
This website represents a collection of work that was completed over the course of Fall 2013 when I was enrolled in English 101. The following information describes the formal goals and outcomes for the course, and the writing captured via this website represents my personal ability to achieve these goals and outcomes.
Formal Course Description for English 101
Part one of the composition sequence. Introduces first-year college writing skills including thesis discovery, development, support, organization, sentence correctness, diction, style, and final editing. Assignments might include and integrate exposition, narration, argumentation and response. Emphasizes analytical reading and introduces formal academic documentation.
Formal Course Outcomes for English 101
Develop and express their ideas clearly and reasonably for a unified purpose.
Employ a writing process that includes generating original ideas, drafting and revising for the appropriate audience, and editing for correctness and style.
Develop essays that use rhetorical strategies appropriate for audience and purpose.
Demonstrate comprehension of college level reading that challenges their thinking.
Find sources using library print collections or databases.
Use summary, paraphrase, and quotation appropriately and accurately.
Use a formal system of documentation such as MLA or APA.
Use a style of delivery that is effective in communicating their message.
Produce at least 3,500 words of formal writing.
