One of the greatest things I learned was to really watch out for the word count. Instead of usually guessing how many words I have, I actually have been checking my word count and it helps me to keep on writing. The partners is also a great thing to have because I can get a hold of them if I need help or get an opinion on a paper. It also makes a friendship that is nice to have in the class. I wasn't quite sure about the website idea at first but I think now it works and I like it. Weebly is a great way to post everything and make it creative. I'm still having some troubles with it because it's new to me but I think after a little more time with it I'll get the hang of it. Another helpful assignment we all worked on was the procrastination blog. It was nice to see and hear that everyone else had procrastination problems as well. Hopefully I can work on my procrastination and do work ahead of time and not work on things at the last minute. I believe the two books were a great choice for the class. Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer was a little confusing at first but towards the end of the chapter it started coming together. I'm sure the rest of the book will make sense as well. There hasn't really been anything that has bothered me throughout the class yet. You've been a very good teacher and have helped everyone who has needed it. You really are knowledgeable about what you are doing and I am confident that you can make all of us into better writers and give us the knowledge to pass onto other classes.
In the first chapter of Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything by Joshua Foer, the main point of the chapter is that "even average memories are remarkably powerful if used properly" (Foer 9). Foer ends up at the U.S. Memory Championship as an observer. Foer gets told, "Anyone could do what they do" (Foer 9). With this he is interested in studying a mental workout to strengthen his memory. "'The brain is like a muscle,' he said, and memory training is a form of mental workout. Over time, like any form of exercise, it'll make the brain fitter, quicker, and more nimble" (12). Foer learns more about how this is possible and talks with Buzan about how this is acheived. He is interested in achieving this ability and understanding how it all works. Foer says, "I learned firsthand that our memories are indeed improvable, within limits, and that the skills of Ed and Lukas can indeed be tapped by all of us" (17).
Foer, Joshua. Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything. New York: The Penguin Press, 2011. Kindle e-book. The main point of the story is just because you can't see something doesn't make it not achievable. The purpose of this story is not being confined by what you can only see. To allow you to open your mind and search for the things that you can not see. The thesis of the story is, "I don't know if I'm fine or if it's okay, or if saying it makes anyone feel better. Mostly it's just something to say" (Doerr 158). It seems like this is the thesis because she seems sad during her thesis in the beginning of the story and then still seems sad at the end of the story, "Out the window it starts to snow" (Doerr 186).
Doerr, Anthony. Memory Wall: Stories. New York: Scribner, 2012. Kindle e-book. Yes I procrastinate because I become to lazy and think I have all the time in the world. I wait until the last minute where I am pressured into hurrying to finish on time. In a weird way though I like feeling the pressure because it makes me focus more and to get something done. Being a procrastinator impacts me pretty greatly. I have to scramble to get something done on time where as I could get it done early and not have to worry about if I can finish on time or not. Procrastinating on something can be really bad because you are putting more pressure on yourself than there needs to be. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst I am probably a 7.
Goals - My goal is to turn all my assignments in on time and actually finish an assignment before the due date so i could recheck and make corrections if there needs to be some. Time - With work and my classes, I know I have time to set aside for my writing assignments. Even if i just set an hour aside just for writing, it is better than taking no time at all for writing. Resources - I have all my resources, pen, paper, iPad, and keyboard. If I don't have any of those than I would just try and think of things to write. Later i would come back to write my ideas down. Process - My writing process is trying to come up with ideas on what to write about and then make them into the assignment. Distractions - My greatest distraction is my TV. I like listening to a movie or a show while working on an assignment but that also gets me distracted by taking my eyes and mind off what I i am working on and making me focus on the TV. Failure - Failure is not an option for me because I am not paying to retake a class that I failed at. No matter how hard i have to work, each class will be passed. |
